Another blog

Hello fellow readers,

I started another blog. Because six blogs isn't enough to a woman who loves to start new things. But really, I promise there's a purpose to this one. This blog will be centered around my writing career, whether it be poetry or essays or other aspirations. The Poss Post is centered around current events, theology, politics, and racial issues and is a joint project with my husband. My first blog was mandatory homework for my AP Lit class in high school (which is embarrassing to me 12 years later). The other blogs I've written have been short-lived but at one time they served a purpose.

You see, I was prompted by Goodreads to add a blog to my author profile (since I officially self-published my first book - every aspiring author's dream right?). I thought, well I have many blogs but which one do they want? They even told me that if I had a blog I could start a following or provide details about my book (see Goodreads excerpt below). Even Blurb, the website I used to self-publish my poetry book asked what my website was. So now I can tell both Blurb and Goodreads that I did it. I have a website/blog/place-to-do-writing-things-that-authors-do. Ta-da!!!

WANT TO START A BLOG?

Hi Christina. If you had a blog, your posts would show up here. A blog can be a great way to:
  • start a following
  • keep your followers up to date
  • provide your readers with extra details about your books

So I did what every obedient internet user does and I followed the advice. Hence, blog #7 for me. Even if no one reads this blog, I firmly believe in the process of writing as therapeutic, healthy, healing, and mentally stimulating. If writers weren't allowed to write, I bet the world would explode in worse ways than it already is right now.

It's likely this blog will consist of my writing but also the critiques or book reviews I've done on other books. I will spare you the energy of filtering through all of my book reviews (last year I read 69 books!) and only select the books I deem worthy for a blog post. I want this blog to be a place where people can come to learn things and feel things. Book reviews are for learning and poetry is for feeling.

I hope you enjoy the wandering, enthusiastic, passionate, poetic thoughts of a 27 year old aspiring writer! I would love to hear from you on how you feel about writing. Do you write for yourself or for others? Why or why not? What are some unexpected benefits to writing that you've discovered over the years? Do you have your own blog or website?

Here's to a new year and a new blog!
Christina Poss
